Saint john nepomuk chapel

Welcome to Saint John Nepomuk Chapel, the oldest Czech church in the New World.  Founded in 1854, Saint John’s has been serving Catholics in the historic Soulard area of Saint Louis for 157 years.  Today we embrace our Czech heritage but our church is attended by people of all backgrounds from all over the Metropolitan Saint Louis Area.

Please join us for the holy sacrifice of the mass Saturday afternoon at 4:30 or Sunday morning at 9:30.

Group tours are available by appointment.  Please contact our rectory at least 30 days in advance.

ORDINARY TIME
Anything but ordinary

The word “ordinary” as it’s used in the Church calendar doesn’t mean “plain”, or “simple”. It means that it’s not Advent or Christmas and it’s not Lent or Easter. It’s the time in-between. But it’s definitely not “ordinary” in the way we normally use the term.

In fact, Ordinary Time, 2012 looks to be extraordinary! Catholics and others who value their religious freedom are in a battle to retain our First Amendment rights. The current administrations’s Health and Human Services department is attempting to take away a critical piece of our religious freedom, demanding that we pay for products and services that violate tenets of our faith.

Never in American history has the government launched such an attack on anyone’s religious freedom. The link below will take you to the Archdiocese’s special web site on this issue. Please take a few minutes to check it out.

This is not a small issue. If this is allowed to stand the Church will be faced with some very difficult choices including closing vital Catholic institutions, or not providing health insurance for thousands of employees.

This is NOT just about health insurance. If this brutal act of religious discriminiation is allowed to stand, there’s no telling what might be next. Please pray about this and take whatever other actions you can to make your feelings known.
